Your First Visit
Your first visit to anybody’s medical office can be daunting, so a little preparation can be helpful. When you visit our office at 12065 Old Meridian in Carmel, Indiana, our offices are on the second floor. Once off the elevator, turn right (restrooms to the left). You will see two check-in stations. Northside ENT is to your left, while Performance Voice Solutions is straight ahead, next to Total Hearing Solutions, our audiology division. Tanya Berdichevsky is the administrative assistant for Performance Voice Solutions, and she will be the person on the right.
Tanya will ask you to complete 2-3 standard medical forms (including a medical history form, a financial agreement form, etc), and will ask for your insurance card(s) and ID. f you have been here before to see one of our physicians, then you just have to update your information. Once that is completed, Rebecca Risser, the speech pathologist and voice clinician, will come out to greet you.
Rebecca will take you back to the videostrobe examination room, and ask you several questions about your voice problem, such as when it began and how it’s progressing, what do you think caused the problem, etc. If you’ve already seen one of our doctors about this already, she’ll have read his notes, and ask you about the conversation you had with him. Rebecca will also ask you to complete a Reflux Symptom Index, if you haven’t within the last 30 days, which gives your feedback on the severity of about 9 symptoms that relate to reflux. After that she’ll examine your larynx (voice box) and record the examination, so you’ll see what she sees. This is called videostroboscopy. Many people find it educational when they review their videostrobe with the clinician.
After that, Rebecca will discuss her recommendations with you, and what Performance Voice Solutions can do for you. This may include voice therapy (strength building and rebalancing the voice), or it may include a combination of surgery and voice therapy for your best outcomes. The whole process takes less than one hour, typically, depending on the discussion portion.
We look forward to welcoming you to Performance Voice Solutions.
