Your First Visit
Your first visit to anybody’s medical office can be daunting, so a little preparation can be helpful.
When you visit our office in the Northside ENT building at 12065 Old Meridian Street in Carmel, Indiana, our offices are on the second floor. Once off the elevator, turn right; restrooms are to the left.
You will see two check-in stations. Northside ENT is to your left, while Performance Voice Solutions is straight ahead, next to Total Hearing Solutions, our audiology division.
Tanya Berdichevsky is the administrative assistant for Performance Voice Solutions, and she is on the right.
Tanya will ask you to complete two to three standard medical forms, including a medical history form, a financial agreement form, etc. She will also ask for your insurance card(s) and ID.
If you have been to our office before to see one of our physicians, then you just need to update your information. Once that is completed, Rebecca Miles Risser, M.M., M.A., CCC-SLP, our certified speech language pathologist specializing in voice therapy clinician, will come out to greet you.
Rebecca will take you back to the videostrobe examination room, and ask you questions about your voice problem. For example, when it began and how it’s progressing, what you think caused the problem, etc.
If you’ve already seen one of our doctors about this, she’ll have read his notes and ask you about the conversation you had with your physician.
Rebecca will also ask you to complete a Reflux Symptom Index, if you haven’t within the last 30 days This gives your feedback on the severity of about nine symptoms that relate to reflux.
Videostrobe Exam
Rebecca will then examine your “larynx” or voice box and record the examination, so you’ll see what she sees. This is called videostroboscopy. Many people find it educational when they watch their videostrobe with the clinician.
After that, Rebecca will discuss her recommendations with you, and what Performance Voice Solutions can do for you. Voice therapy may include strength building and rebalancing the voice, or it may include a combination of surgery and voice therapy for your best outcome. The whole process usually takes less than one hour, depending on the discussion portion.
We look forward to welcoming you to Performance Voice Solutions.
